In the movie, “The 3 Idiots”, it just simply portrays our lives in college and the inspiring quote of Rancho “College is not a Pressure Cooker” It may be hard to survive every obstacle that may come on our way but what’s important is that we remained strong and we never give up in order to achieve our goals in life. As the saying goes, “no pain no gain”. We will never gain or have the things that we always wanted to achieve if we did not invest on it and do everything that we can in order to have it. It was the most elevated netting film in its opening weekend in India and had the most elevated opening day accumulations for a Bollywood film. It likewise had the record for most astounding net accumulations in the first week for a Bollywood film. The brains behind the innovations were Remya Jose, a student from Kerala, who created the exercise-bicycle/washing-machine; Mohammad Idris, a barber from Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh, who invented a bicycle-powered horse clipper; and Jahangir Painter, a painter from Maharashtra, who made the scooter-powered flour mill.[9] This film was remade in Tamil as Nanban (2012) which also received critical praise and commercial success.[10][11] It has also been announced that there will be a Chinese remake of the film produced by Stephen Chowand that there are plans for a Hollywood remake produced in the United States.[12] A Telugu remake was planned despite Nanbanhaving a Telugu dubbed version titled Snehitudu.
The movie is led by the three characters, Rancho, Raju and Farhan. Each one of them has their own characteristics and dreams in life and they have distinct talents and skills in which it helps them to achieve what they have become in the future.
I shall start with Farhan Qureshi, Farhan is one of the best friends of rancho that is also a main character in the movie three idiots. From the day he was born, he does his best and enrolled in the Imperial College of engineering that made by her parents. He wants to be a photographer but her family wants him to become a great engineer in the future. When he is a child her parents made some goals that he must do when he grow. For me, as a reflector of his life when it comes to his part in the movie, he is a good man and obedient son. I didn`t experience this story in my life when I enrolled on college and on this course, because I am the one who choose my course for the reason that I want to learn it on my own. He studied in Imperial College because of his love and respect he doesn’t want to disobey his parents, who have all the efforts to spend money for his college life so that he can continue and to have a brighter future. He had no choice but to have his engineering studies and disregard his passion on photography as he continue the desire of his parents in the imperial college in India. His dream is to become a wildlife photographer because he had this passion in photography and he also loves animals and it was projected on the movie his photographs on animals. Even though he pursued engineering and become an engineering student in a top 1 Engineering University, his love for photography is still in him. Every examination results, he is consistent on being on the last rank and always on the last row during class pictorials together with Raju. He still studies his lessons well but still can’t make it to the top and I understand what he is going through because for me, you cannot give what you don’t have. Even if I have all the perseverance that I need to be on top but if my heart is not in it, it is still useless. I would not be happy because following our hearts would make us happier. I understand that he needed to do all of these things just to make his parent’s proud especially his father considering that he had given him all the privileges just to make him feel comfortable in his studies like buying an air conditioner and put it on Farhan’s room just to make it comfortable for him to study his lessons well. Everything that they can offer they will give it to his son just to make it comfortable and easier for him to study. A part of the movie wherein it is their job interview and his father bought him a brand new laptop because he thought that it would be a great help for his son especially if he would pass the job interview and be hired for work. I idolized Farhan’s courage to speak for himself and let his father know what he wanted in his life. I understand his father’s side because our parents only wanted what’s best for us. They would not decide on something if they know it would be no good at all. But sometimes we need to speak out especially on what would really make us happy because a man would be truly human if he will be able to live his life to the fullest, meaning he had live his life the way he wanted it to be. I liked the scene when Rancho, who inspired him to be telling his father what really makes him happy. It’s not the money, it’s not the prestigious cars and also it’s not the number of houses he will owns, fame and high respect but the profession that will inspire him to achieve success and a passion that will lead him to excellence. He talked to his father that he doesn’t want to pursue engineering because he wanted to follow his heart, his dreams and it would be wildlife photographer. Not all have the courage to face their parents and he took himself responsible for what’s about to happen after his decision to pursue what he wants. He proved to me that it’s not always too late to give yourself a try and be passionate. We must not give up on ourselves and give it a shot to pursue or passion and with a little luck all everything might work out for you. Just pray that God will give you enlightenment and he would guide you along the way. Don’t be scared when you try to do it alone. Along the way you’ll meet a people who are a lot like you. I remember a quote saying that don’t follow someone’s path instead make a new path for others to follow. And the thing is I was touched on how his father reacted on the situation that he said that he will return the laptop that he just bought for his son and asked for the cost of the camera that his son would need on his endeavor. It was a happy ending for Farhan because his father finally understands the meaning of happiness for his son and embraces him as a sign of his acceptance and love. In real life, our parents cannot bear the feeling of not seeing us happy, what they surely wants for us is the best of everything and sometimes they tend to forget that we already have our own life, own thoughts and own feelings. They made decisions that sometimes it is against our will but out of our love and respect for them we just kept to ourselves what we really wanted just to please them and not disappointing them. It is not wrong to stand up and talk to them what we really wanted but it should be in a nice way in which they would really understand what we really wanted to tell them. Whatever decisions we may have, our parents are our number one supporters and the one that will push us harder just for us to achieve our goals and dreams in life. I really admired Farhan’s courage to stand up to his father in order for him to have his life following the tracks of his dream and I also admired his parents especially his father for listening and understanding his son’s plea and supports him instead. If you are a college student like me or if you were a student before. It is possible to have a classmate who was just force to make a degree of a course that they parents have chosen. Let us face it, money is essential especially in these times but the reason why some professionals earn large amounts of money is not because they are professionals but it is the willingness and passion upon them and the love of what they are doing. Let us take a note that not all graduates of engineering courses or other degrees that is said to lead you to high-paying job becomes successful, sometimes you need to follow your hearth on what things you may like and what things you may desire and decide for yourself on the things that you aim for your brighter future. This makes me realize that it is not all about professions that matters but it is where your passion on things is. In this story of Farhan in 3 idiots it shows that you don’t need to be rich, or to have a luxurious and expensive house to be happy. We just have to do what we really wanted to do and success will chase after us. Farhan is a good friend because even though his teacher or VIRUS as what they called their teacher keeps telling him to stay away from Rancho but still Farhan di not listens to the dictate of his teacher and they keep being close friends with Rancho. It is so hard to find a friend like that, a friend that will never leave you in the good times and in the bad times and won’t leave you hanging. It is hard to find a friend that will love and accept you even if you have everything or if you have nothing, sometimes you will meet a friend that if everything it taken away from you the will also leave you and that is very painful situation that you may encounter in your life. After all of the revelations the confession of Farhan to his family approximately to his father, Farhan and Raju returned to Rancho and feeling thankful to Rancho as a matter of fact they just pulled down there pants off and show there butt’s to Rancho it is the laziest way that they both think to make Rancho feel that they are so very thankful that Rancho came in their lives and change the way they view their lives. Farhan Qureshi is also a great example to those students who were not satisfied to their present courses.
The second character in the movie is Raju Rastogi, compared to Rancho and Farhan, he belongs to a poor family. He had a sick father who was once a postman, a mother who is retired and an unwed sister that could not marry because they could not afford the dowry that the family of the groom wanted. He wanted to be an engineer because he wanted to make his parents happy and could provide a good life for his family. He is a type of person in which he values his family so much because for them, he is their last hope for their family. He really wanted to finish and graduate engineering because for him it would give him a stable job and could offer him a salary to suffice the needs of his family.
In the movie, Raju is always torn between decisions because Professor Virus knew that Raju is the weakest of them all, he would always use the disposition of the family of Raju and compare it with his friends to threaten him. There was a time when Professor Virus send a letter to the parents of Raju telling that their son is having a bad influence from his friends that could cause no good to their son’s studies. Raju was sent back to his family and his poor mother scold him, telling him the lessons and again and again letting him remember that they are poor, that their only hope would be Raju when he finish college and got a decent job because his father was ill and her sister cannot get married, and if he did not do well in his studies, they would be doomed and they would end up starving to death. Raju is the serious one and don’t want to be distracted by the doings of his friends Rancho and Farhan and so he decided to move to another room so that he could stay focus on studying his lessons but it did not went well because his friends made a plan to make him realize that they are good company and not Chatur. He thought that he is in bad company his friends would distract him in his studies and would be the reason for his failures in class. But he was completely wrong, because even though he moved to another room, lie lowed from his friends but in the end they are the one who helped his father to be brought right away to the hospital especially Rancho. He is the one who did a lot of effort for it just to bring Raju’s father to the hospital in time. And by that time, he realized that friends will always be friends especially in times of troubles, trials and difficulties. Our friends will be the one we can share our thoughts freely and they will be always there for us no matter. True friends are really hard to find and if you have them keep them and treasure them. There’s this incident in the story wherein they the three friends were in trouble because they get drunk and crashed on Mr. Virus’s house in the middle of the night because of their be on Rancho that he should confess his feelings for Pia, Mr. Virus’s daughter. They were in trouble because Mr. Virus woke up and been able to recognize one of them and unfortunately, it was Raju. In the morning during their class, they were caught by Mr. Virus because they fell asleep on their room and found a bottle of rum with them and so Raju was invited by Mr. Virus in his office. They talked on his office and gave Raju a warning. He will not be able to graduate in time because of what happened last night and made a bargain with him. He would erase his name on the list of students that will not graduate if he will put the name of Rancho on it and will be his witness for such act. It would be a very hard decision for Raju to make because it is a dilemma between his future and his loyalty for his friend. If I were in Raju’s shoes, it would be very hard and risky decision for me because, whatever I will choose there would be a consequence for it. If I will choose to put my friend in danger in replace for me, it would be him who will not be able to graduate and it would be a lifetime guilt for me but if I will choose not to erase my name and not to witness against my friend, I would be the one who will not graduate and would bring disappointment to my family. I understand that he choose to jump off the building and commit suicide because of mental pressure that he needed to decide sometimes suicide is an person’s escape for all the problems that he is going through. Committing suicide would not bring any good to us because it would not resolve any issues in our lives but instead it would worsen the case. But in Raju’s case he chose suicide than to sacrifice things that he valued the most. He was hospitalized and everyone was very worried about him especially his family and friends that love him so much. They did everything just to show Raju that they are strong despite what happened to him because it would be great help for him to wake up and recover easily. Rancho and Farhan did the most of things that may help Raju to wake up and recover they even got to the point that even Farhan did not know it when Rancho talk to Raju that Raju’s sister will be married to a man he knows a lot, to a man that he may live he’s trust with his sister and after that Farhan is so shocked when Rancho told Raju that the man he is talking about is Farhan, and Farhan started to bash Rancho because he don’t want to marry at the first place it is funny to come up with that idea of Rancho just to let Raju wake up. And fortunately after all their efforts, Raju recovered from the incident and they all rejoiced for such good news. I admired his determination because even though he just recovered from his accident and his legs were still broken, he still went on their job interview and answered all the interviewers’ questions confidently. I admired also his attitude that he would not change himself just to please the interviewers’. He said in his interview, “You keep your job and I’ll keep my attitude” after what he just said and he turn around to finally go out in the interviewers room, the interviewers suddenly make up their minds and they tell Raju that maybe they can work it around. The face of Raju that moment is full of joy and he didn’t even control his tears to run down from he’s eyes. A lesson learned from that moment is even if you don’t have the capacity to walk or prior other than that it is not an hindrance to pursue our dreams. Our attitude composes our being and it is made even stronger by the experiences that we encountered in our lives. Just like Raju he is stronger now because of what happened to him. He can be someone if he will just be determined and strong to face the trials in life that he may face. Raju is a God-Fearing which means he is always been relying to God for his problems and giving the glory to God for his success. Sometimes, his love for his family gives him more honor than Rancho. He is also more upright or just than Rancho, because though he is not as good as Rancho, he never thought of cheating just to pass the exam particularly the final exam, even though he already knew that his Professor has a plan to fail him. He knows that if he would fail the exam and/or the job interview it is because it is the will of God, and he is willing to accept the will of God even if it means he will have to fail both the final exam and the job interview. In this part of the movie he did not remember that if he will be rusticated out of the Imperial College of Engineering God had his plans for him and from their motto “All is well” he should also think that “God knows best”. God will never leave him if he just accepts his wrong doing, and continue his life whatever may come or happened to him.
The most important and lead character in the movie is Rancho. He is a perfect example of genuine wisdom. For me, he touched many lives in the story not just touched but inspired lives including the viewers. I can say to that he is a perfect example of genuine wisdom because since he was a child he could not afford to study at school but instead slip on classes and wear uniform even though he is not enrolled. He just wanted to be educated and learn new things in life. I was amazed by his principle that, “you don’t need money just be in school, all you need is a uniform”, by that doing he just proves that a person could do everything if he wanted to prove something. He is a genius by birth and he never wanted to stop learning. All he had learned from school, he applied it. For example, during their first night at the university he did used what he had learned from physics that salt water is good conductor of electricity. I was amazed by that kind of simple invention he had made so that he will not be bullied by the seniors. He is a good friend to his friends; he would help them when they are in need. He inspired their lives and taught them to follow what would make them happy. I admired him because despite the pressure in college he still can make it to the top of the class and proved to everyone that grades are not important it will just make division among others, what’s important is that even though we may not have high grades but we learned something from it. It would a foundation for our success in the future, all the things that we learned in this so-called life. In the movie, he always pushes his friends to bring out what they have for them to have something to be proud of. This man is indeed a very inspiring man for me because it made me realized that education is what we really need for the success of our future and taught me the value of friendship that friends are our second family. Through ups and downs, true friends will always be there for you. The saying “AAL IZZ WELL” is a reminder for us all that everything will be alright if we will believe in ourselves and has that faith in each one of us. He is an outstanding student in ICE because he is an eye opener to everyone and I liked what Mr. Virus told him that he is not right all the time. It simply means that even though we, people, are that smart, genius, bright in terms of intellectual capabilities but we do not know everything, we should stay humble at all times. We tend to make mistakes and we should accept it even though it would hurt our pride. He is the only student in which Mr. Virus had seen to be one of a kind that’s why he gave his pen to him because that pen is a symbol of excellence and for me he really deserve it. It is not that easy to make a machine out of materials that are available at a certain time. For me Rancho is a hero in that movie, he is able to save a child’s life by his innovated invention the vacuum cup out of a vacuum cleaner and helped to deliver Mona’s baby safely. I was really amazed by what he had done at that time and I’m sure that Mr. Virus is also amazed and proud of him that’s why he gave his pen to him. A really one of a kind and extra ordinary person for me that would best describe Rancho. The most part of the movie that makes me focus to watch is when their exam is coming, he tried to communicate to Pia(the daughter of Virus), so that he can have the copy of the examination that Professor Virus will give unto them. When Pia gave the key to the office of the director Rancho and Farhan started searching the copy of the examination and after they found it they try to give it to Raju but Raju didn’t accept it because he has the confidence that he can pass the exam whether the exam is difficult or very difficult for him or for them. After that the Rancho is so happy that Raju has gained a lot of confidence with himself, and Rancho and Farhan only want to help their friend. Rancho also helps the daughter of Professor Virus even though Rancho knew that Professor Virus is so mad after what he did before the examination. It is the time when the daughter of Professor Virus is giving nearly giving birth but there is a Flash Flood or Strom or something like that that almost all the communications are currently offline or down at that moment when Rancho, Farhan, Raju and millimeter is trying to leave the Imperial College of Engineering even there is a Strom or what so ever they accidentally passes by unto the car of Professor Virus and inside on it is her daughter the big Sister of Pia that is stranded in the middle of the storm or what so ever, they manage to left their baggage and start helping the daughter of Professor Virus that is nearly giving birth. They took the daughter of Professor Virus without him noticing them because Professor Virus is so busy contacting an ambulance or trying to call Pia to get them a rescue team. When they arrived at the basement and Professor Virus finally notices them and follow them to the basement they immediately contact Pia, because Pia is a doctor and knows on how to deal with a women giving a birth. After they contact Pia and they started working and figuring out on how manipulate the situation they have encounter a problem that would lead them to rush the problem is the electricity has been shut down and they don’t have enough things that they can use to overcome the situation. After all of that they all have gathered and starting working up together to save the life of the daughter and the child that is on her stomach of Professor Virus after they manage to produced lights and electricity the only problem that they are facing is on the proper way on how to get the baby inside the stomach of Professor Virus’s daughter because as they continually doing the instructions that Pia is giving unto them the baby just got get stock and they don’t know how to get it and when they are just about to give up Pia instructed them to use a vacuum to pull the baby out unto the stomach of her sister. After all of the struggle that they fought they finally pull out the baby out to this world. But suddenly the baby did not cry when Rancho slap the butt of the baby and Professor Virus starts to fill up his emotions and the other classmates and schoolmates of the 3 has been sent to quite mode. The shocking moment that I didn’t saw coming was when Rancho say’s the words “ALL IS WELL” because every time he says “ALL IS WELL” the baby starts to kick, and after that they all keep saying it until the baby started to cry and that is the time when Professor Virus gave his pen to the only student they have that he knows that is greater or have a greater future than him. Rancho was a very kind-hearted person. He cares so much so much for his friends and also to the family of his friends has. There was that time that the father of Raju needs to be rush to the hospital because of a critical condition that may lead to his death. He did not hesitate to offer some help and immediately use the scooter of Pia to transport the father of Raju to the hospital. Even though Raju was so disappointed at first and was insulted because what Rancho did is he did not wait for the Ambulance to arrive, but he was relieved and felt sorry for his friends when he heard from the doctor that his father could have died if not immediately send to the hospital. That time, all the anger from his hearth vanish and he was so thankful to His friends for saving the life of his father.
If I would choose among the three characters in the movie, I will obviously choose Rancho or Rancchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad because he stands out above them all.
He is able to inspire me in many ways like in the quote that he always says “Pursue excellence, and success will follow, pants down.” For me, if we aim for dreams aim it high because it would be our motivation in life to reach that goal. If we will be able to excel in our chosen careers or paths that we wanted to take, our success on it will not be impossible to achieve because if we love what we are doing, everything will be just in place plus it would be a fulfillment of our long life dreams. He made realize that grades are just basis on how well I am able to comprehend the lessons taught in school but it is should not be our basis for our excellence but on how we are able to apply it in real life and learn from it because learning should not stop by the time we graduated school but it is a long way process until the end of our life. Rancho is absolutely very different from his classmates. He is very different the way he thinks about a certain thing, the way he take action and the way he take care of things and even people around. Most of us are aware that Rancho is very fan of asking some questions but yet he asked questions at the right places and in the perfect time. He makes less complicated the concepts in the text books and even provides the people with brilliant ideas which I would say his classmates does not have. There was a scenario in the movie in the movie that Rancho said that going to school is not all just because of having good grades, it really is all about learning and in addition, gaining knowledge in what we do. And yes, he is right. There really are people, particularly students who only go to school to get good grades, others just go to school to meet their friends, just escape being bored in the house, and even just to say that “they are going to school” even though they took the different road (to computer shops, malls etc.) .Other students just value their grades, what is important to them is that they passed all the subject and then everything is going to be okay. They are not valuing the real meaning of studying, its real purpose. He is a very good example of a person who really understands the value of learning, and the importance of being educated rather than just getting good and high grades. My impression to him is he is totally awesome. The way he thinks is different, because he is not seeing things just because of its appearance, but rather sees it as a whole and with all of its uses. He has a deeper thought. I don’t think if there are a lot of people like Rancho in real life. But come to think of it, maybe there are lots, like the scientists and inventors for example. I do not personally know a person who thinks like Rancho, but even so, I believe that people like him are rarity in this generation. Most people I know are more like Farhan and Raju, in spite of this, I would still chose Rancho. Rancho is more like a model for all of us, and his character is there to remind us to keep learning new things, to give our best and not surrender, to give hopes to people who needed it, to encourage ourselves as well as our friends, to look forward to a better future and to teach our hearts to survive the pressures in life. But the most striking quote that I heard from the movie is that “Make your passion, your profession”, it is the most striking for me because it really applies what we are going through right now. We cannot accomplish tasks or be successful in a work if our hearts are not on it because we will never be contented on it and we tend to look and ask for more. It would be very good if we will be able to follow what we really want for our lives. I took BSIT Course because I have this passion in computers, I wanted to know everything about it even though programming is the least that I love in this course but I have to embrace it wholeheartedly because it is part of what I called my passion. I want to be a somebody someday that my family could be proud of. I want to be someone someday that is contented in life because I am able to fulfill and reached my goals in life.
This movie taught me a lot when it comes to life and in choosing happiness. For me, they are not idiots, but for me they are smart men. They had inspired so many lives just by watching and understanding the moral behind this movie. And this movie, is one of my favorite movies of all times and I have watched it several times but every time I am watching it the impact of this movie is still the same just like what it is to me on the very first time I am able to watch it. I do hope that they will still continue to make movies like this one because it is a very good movie to recommend in all ages for it teaches us many things about life and could inspire us in many ways. This movie made me like the lead actor Ahmir Khan and I am a big fan of him. I watched his movies because all were very inspiring and have lots of lessons to teach us. I was laughing hard and sometimes I felt torn because some of the scenes of this movie is a heart melting scenario by the way this movie is great. Two thumbs up for this movie!!
